What Matters to Pharma and Biotech R&D Success?
In a fascinating short perspective published in 2013 (Does size matter in R&D productivity? If not, what does?, Nature Reviews Drug Discovery December 2013), Michael Ringel (then at BCG, now CEO of Life Biosciences) and his colleagues analyzed 842 molecules from 419 companies over one decade and reported a set of factors uncorrelated (total R&D spend, location, market size,...) and correlated (scientific track record, validated target, early termination, ...) with R&D success. I have a hunch that:
1️⃣ Some factors may have switched locations.
2️⃣ Some factors may have become harder to track and measure due to the increased fluidity of the deal ecosystem.
3️⃣ New factors have emerged.
Is anyone updating this?
