Speciation?

At a time of increasing polarization in the US and in the world, I have been thinking a lot about what it would mean to have a "speciation" event whereby two or more groups become so incompatible that no further cross-breeding (of ideas) is possible. I will leave examples of speciation-enabling polarization to your imagination -actually a cursory read of the news should suffice.
