I have recently seen an upsurge of interest in... stigmergy! I was wondering why for a minute and then realized it is central to the "new" paradigm of agentic orchestration. If you don't know stigmergy, the word or the concept, I am appending a cute article written with Guy Theraulaz in a faraway galaxy from an era long forgotten. In a nutshell stigmergy is all about emergent communication and coordination between agents (originally biological entities) through modifications of the environment that serve as signals to other agents. Think of pheromone trails in ants, nest building in wasps, dam building in beavers or AI agents cooperating via continually modified context files. I'll leave it at that for now. There have been many papers about it in the last couple of years, some of which are linked to in the comments.
