Not that I am that excited (or end-of-the-world worried) about hashtag#AGI, but I agree wholeheartedly with François Chollet that "hashtag#LLMs have sucked the oxygen out of the room." OpenAI's hashtag#chatgpt has precipitated the emergence of an hashtag#AI monoculture driven by hashtag#FOMO at all levels (individual, corporate, sovereign). In addition to the environmental impact of replicating the same models all over the world, it is also stifling innovation. It may not look or feel that way because there is still much we are discovering about LLMs, but we need a diversity of approaches for the AI ecosystem to flourish.
