AI and Mental Health
A short Science Magazine review worth reading (sadly not Open Access) by Nils Opel and Michael Breakspear "Transforming mental health research and care through artificial intelligence."
There have been multiple, well-publicized examples of tragic incidents involving chatbots leading vulnerable users to self-harm, but at the same time "access to affordable, personalized mental health care remains a global crisis." A broad spectrum of AI-powered tools for monitoring and engaging with patients could be deployed at various levels to address inequities in access to care.
Obviously, "ensuring that AI solutions are centered on the needs and priorities of patients as they traverse mental health challenges will be critical to optimize the benefits that AI-based solutions can provide".
