Huge consequences from a simple observation
There is this graph from a Reddit post making the rounds. Replace "laptop" with (affluent) consumer hardware; to be fair the post's title is "If trends hold, Mythos-class capability may be running on high-end consumer hardware within ~2 years". It raises a lot of (additional) questions about a lot of Capex decisions at a time when xAI and Meta are selling capacity. To be clear training ≠ post-training ≠ fine-tuning ≠ inference across a range of latencies. But if you can run Mythos-class open-weight inference on a PC, it opens up a whole new universe of possibilities, including for inference servers. As Gary Marcus noted, what does that mean for CRWV, ORCL, Nebius, etc?
