ANDY CLARK rather than (or together with) JONY IVE

Artificial Intelligence

A lot of reactions yesterday about the acqui-partnership between OpenAI and Jony Ive. But after I came across (thank you Carmen!) this short comment in Nature Communications (link) by Andy Clark, one of the best and most insightful thinkers about mind extension and how we are, after all, Natural Born Cyborgs, I think Andy has more to offer us (meaning, mankind) in terms of helping design the best interweaving of human minds and AI. Or perhaps a super-team Clark+Ive.

Read it, it is obviously an optimistic take on AI: tool use, in Andy's view, is just an extension of our minds and bodies. But the key idea here is "fluidly incorporate non-biological resources ", i.e., interweaving. With very few exceptions, human-AI interfaces have been very rigid and binary, separating the human from the AI, the prompt from its execution, the director from its actors.
